Bocona

If I had a penny for all the times I’ve been called a bocona for speaking my mind…. I’d probably be retired. 路‍♀️

But here’s the thing, I’ve never seen anyone call a men a “bocón”. Why? Because men who speak their minds are Assertive, leaders, etc etc.

The desire to censor women is so ingrained within the hispanic community that little girls are called mal educadas simply for not allowing others to disrespect them.

I have memories of an adult once saying an inappropriate comment about my body (I WAS 10) and when I told him  “que hasco, viejo rabo verde.” I was told by the other adult with him, a woman! that they were going to tell my dad que “que hija falta de respeto tiene.”

Granted, when I told them to go ahead and include what that disgusting old men had said to me in the description of events they backed off ’cause they knew my dad enough to know what would happen.

But that’s not the only time!

I once called out a family member over an extremely rascist comment on their Facebook page and was told off for being una bocona mal educada.

Excuse me?!  藍

I have many examples like those two. Many others a bit less obvious and some that still me dan vergüenza ajena. But I’ll stop there because I do think my case has been made!

Stop calling women BOCONAS for speaking their mind. And stop calling women BOCONAS for calling you out on your BS.

End of mini rant…
